Privacy Policy
Currently is a personal movie and TV tracker, built for a small group of friends and family. It is not a commercial product: there are no ads, no data brokers, and we do not sell your information to anyone. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what information the app collects, why, and who else ever sees it.
Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect an email address and password, or — if you sign in with Google — the name and email address on your Google account. We also store the display name and unique username you choose.
Content you create. The titles you track, the lists you make (including who else you share a list with), your personal ratings, and your rating-source preferences. This is the core data the app exists to store.
Content you choose to upload. If you use the “Import list” feature, a photo, screenshot, or PDF you provide is sent directly to our AI provider (see below) to read a checklist out of it. We do not keep a copy of the image or PDF ourselves once that request completes.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos beyond ones you explicitly upload, or payment information. The app has no analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs of any kind — nothing about your usage is measured or reported beyond the app’s own functionality.
How We Use Your Information
- To create and secure your account, and let you sign in across devices.
- To store and sync your lists, tracked titles, and ratings.
- To look up movie/TV details and ratings from The Movie Database (TMDB) and MDBList.
- To answer a natural-language recommendation question you type (e.g. “something funny, similar to Superbad”) or to read a checklist out of an uploaded photo/PDF, both via our AI provider, Anthropic.
- To show you news about titles you track, matched against public entertainment RSS feeds.
Who We Share Information With
We never sell your information. It is shared only in these specific, limited ways:
- Other members of a list you share. If you join or create a shared list, the other members of that list can see your username, display name, and any ratings you leave on titles on that list.
- Firebase (Google) — our authentication and database provider. It stores your account and app data securely; we do not use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or any other Firebase tracking product.
- The Movie Database (TMDB) and MDBList — used to look up movie/TV details and ratings. These lookups are by title ID only; your account identity is never sent to them.
- Anthropic (Claude) — used for the natural-language recommendation search and for reading checklists out of uploaded photos/PDFs. Only the text you type, or the image/PDF you choose to upload, is sent — never your email, account ID, or any other account data.
Data Retention and Deletion
You can permanently delete your account at any time from inside the app, under Account → Delete account. Doing so deletes your account, your username, your personal ratings, and any list only you belong to. A shared list you own passes to another member instead of being deleted for them, and your own ratings are removed from it first. This action can’t be undone.
If you are unable to access the app, you may also request deletion by contacting us at currentlysupport@kalotech.dev.
Children
Currently is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Security
We rely on Firebase’s security infrastructure and access-control rules to protect your data. Data is only ever readable by you and, for shared content, the specific people you’ve chosen to share a list with. No method of storing or transmitting data is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we’ll update the effective date at the top of this page.
